School Age Care offers age appropriate activities
and stimulating child care for children attending primary school.
School Age Care offers recreational based, age appropriate activities
and stimulating child-care for all children enrolled at and attending
primary school. Parents are encouraged to discuss their children’s
needs with the program co-ordinators and to visit the program with
their children, to familiarise themselves with the activities and
service offered.
All of our School Age Care programs are fully licensed by the
ACT government and staffed by enthusiastic and highly committed
child-care workers. All of our co-ordinators are fully qualified
and, along with all casual staff over 18, undergo police checks.
As well as a range of regular fun activities, many SAC programs
also link into other special programs such as Auskick, Auscricket,
Kids@play etc. A nutritious afternoon tea is provided daily and
cooking is a popular part of the regular activities for many programs.

Brian
Pearce the Director of Garran School Age Care has been
a dedicated to the school Age care profession for 19 years and still
has the same passion for the job that he had when he first started.
Brian has demonstrated his commitment to School Age Care in many
ways but the most significant has been through his advocacy work
with OOSHACT (Out of School Hours A.C.T) where he was a founding
member. Brain’s enthusiasm for his job is admirable and his
passion for providing high quality and inclusive child care for
school age children deserves to be applauded. Brian is fully engaged
in every aspect of his after school care program and is always innovative
when developing new and exciting activities to do that promotes
and maintains quality care and inclusion for children and their
families.
Throughout
her years working in School Age Care with WCS, Yvonne Weldon
has continually and consistently demonstrated passion and commitment
to the sector. She does this first and foremost by developing and
maintaining positive relationships with the children, their families
and her fellow team members. Yvonne takes a real interest in all
the children and their family background and using this knowledge
assists the Co-ordinator to implement activities that are relevant
to all the children. By using other motivational techniques such
as positive language and encouragement Yvonne is enable to engage
the children and families in all aspects of the program. Together
with her Co-ordinator Yvonne implements stimulating, age appropriate
and inclusive programs that meet the needs of the families using
the service.

care by being in the Profession for 15 years. Over that time she
has been an important part of the WCS School Age Care team and has

Edie will always be open to new ideas and thrives on taking on any
new challenges and changes that arise in the profession.
Edie continually strives to provide appropriate and stimulating
programs for children. She does this by continually developing her
own skills and those of her staff through professional development
training. Edie is constantly implementing new ideas and changes

Jocelyn
Duthie is a highly valued School Age Care assistant who
has been working with Woden Community Service for over 2 years.
Jocelyn demonstrates her commitment to her work by continually coming
up with interesting activity ideas on how to maintain a high quality
care program. Her dedication to the program and the support she
provides to the Co-ordinator goes above and beyond the call of duty.
While in the program Jocelyn engages with the other staff to get
the children interested by role-modelling enthusiasm and appropriate
work practices. Jocelyn will always be the first to volunteer her
own time to participate in sleepovers and other fundraising activities.
One of Jocelyn’s major strengths is in delivering an energetic
and fun Active After School Communities program once a week. Jocelyn
enthusiasm for her job makes her a great candidate for the award.
