Sustaining Tenancy Program

Covering Southside Region - For Public, Private and Community Housing tenants.

What is the Sustaining Tenancy Program?

The Sustaining Tenancy Program is a program that aims to support tenants in managing their tenancies in public, private and community housing.

The program has a strong focus on early intervention to avoid or alleviate issues resulting in housing debt or mortgage default.

Those eligible for the program are:

Tenants of ACT Public, Private and Community Housing who are identified at risk of entering the debt and eviction cycle.

Early indicators include:

  • Lack of financial management (debt management)
  • Failed payment of rent
  • Personal issues (relationship breakdown)
  • Health issues (physical, mental, psychological)
  • Drug and alcohol issues

How can the Program assist you?

The program can coordinate services through:

  • Case Coordination - by identifying services that can assist you
  • Referral - to other agencies/support services where needed
  • Advocacy - by supporting and representing you where and when required
  • Outreach - by bringing our service to you

We can also assist you in identifying and understanding your rights and responsibilities as a tenant.

How can the Sustaining Tenancy Worker work with tenants?

We can work with you in managing issues you may have so that you can maintain secure long term accommodation. This can include referrals to:

  • Financial/Budgeting Services
  • Individual/Family Support Programs
  • Home and Community Care Programs
  • Youth Services
  • Legal Services

Assistance with Care and Housing for the Aged (ACHA)

The ACHA Program assists financially disadvantaged older persons who are in rental accommodation or who are homeless.

The program aims to meet client's support and accommodation needs in order for them to remain living within the community.

Assistance with Care and Housing for the Aged is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care.

WCS receives funding from the Community Linkages Program (CLP) which is funded by the ACT Government.
