Abilities Unlimited Australia
AUA runs a suite of programs including:
1. Cyclabilities cycling and road safety program
2. Shredabilities skateboarding and personal safety program
3. Moveabilities movement and wellbeing program
4. Waterabilities drowning prevention and swim skill program.
All AUA programs are run in the community for the community offering whole family support and an environment where everyone is included, everyone is welcome and everyone is supported to truly shine.
Through explicit, direct, and multisensory instructional methods AUA Instructors work within all programs to support individual participants in setting personal goals and developing strategies to achieve those goals. This in turn supports increasingly higher levels of self-reliance and continual confidence and capability building.
The result of the development of skills through all programs aims to support children to build greater social networks, physical literacy skills, crucial safety and life skills, develop confidence and independence and self-management, and increase inclusion at school and in the wider community.
Programs are led by interdisciplinary teams of allied health professionals, teachers and passionate, and dedicated instructors who provide individualised intensive support. Instructors are passionate, caring, flexible and responsive, using a range of explicit, direct and multisensory learning strategies to support the needs of each participant in a social, inclusive, and supportive environment.
Programs are community inclusion focused, providing a forum for parents, siblings, and other caregivers to foster supportive social relationships, share knowledge and experiences and make friends in an environment of care, social connection, and mutual understanding. These networks provide an invaluable source of emotional and practical support for careers across the challenging and often emotional journey of parenting.
