Interested in pursuing a student placement and building a potential marketing career with Woden Community Service (WCS)?

Our Marketing & Communications Team is currently looking for two student interns who will help promote WCS’s brand, mission and services to its existing and prospective clients and stakeholders.

Applications are open to current students and/or fresh university graduates from any ACT tertiary institutions who meet the following criteria:

1. Marketing & Communications Coordinator

The successful intern would be assisting with the following duties: 

  • Work with WCS staff to develop news stories and other marketing materials. 
  • Create effective content for marketing collateral, promotional campaigns, web posts and social media by seeking out stories and interviewing people, arranging photography and videos. 
  • Assist in developing and executing communications strategies across multiple platforms. 
  • Coordinate the marketing, communication and media activities. 
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders – colleagues, clients, journalists and external providers such as designers and web developers. 
  • Develop marketing materials and assist team members as required. 
  • Create content and assist in managing WCS’s suite of communications, including (but not limited to) internal and external email, newsletters, web and marketing materials. 
  • Assist the Manager in collating results from multiple sources against key metrics, compile monthly reports to identify trends and help to improve performance. 
  • Stay abreast with industry trends and news, constantly applying these insights into WCS marketing activities across the board. 
  • Assist with production and in-house printing of leaflets, posters and booklets. 
  • Regularly evaluate personal performance with the supervisor and actively seek opportunities to develop professionally and personally. 
  • Actively participate in staff/team meetings, organisational activities and various community events. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 
  • Ensure your safety, the safety of the community, service users and your colleagues by following the WCS Work Health and Safety Policy and Procedures at all times.

Skills required: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in marketing, media, visual communications or relevant industry experience. 
  • A minimum of three years of related experience writing and editing projects (portfolio of relevant previous projects highly preferred). 
  • Demonstrated experience in integrated communications planning and delivery in a project or campaign capacity. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision. 
  • Proficient with MailChimp or similar email marketing platform. 
  • Proficient with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud or similar desktop publishing software. 
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Proficient with WordPress or similar content management system (preferred but not required). 
  • ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration. 

Under WCS policy, staff are required to have an up to date COVID 19 vaccination. During the recruitment process, you will be asked to confirm your vaccination status or approved exemption.

2. Marketing & Communications Officer

The successful intern would be assisting with the following duties: 

  • Create engaging content for marketing collateral, promotional campaigns, web posts and social media through searching out stories, interviewing people, taking photos and videos. 
  • Develop marketing materials and assist with daily website content updates and social media management. 
  • Contribute to the development and execution of marketing and communications strategies across multiple platforms. 
  • Assist in content creation and in managing WCS’s suite of communications, including (but not limited to) social media, internal and external email newsletters, website and other marketing collaterals. 
  • Assist at event setups and take photos, film short videos and gather stories and information to support content production when required 
  • Willing to learn graphics design and creation of posters and flyers from a brief using Canva, as well as scheduling of social media posts. 
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining productive relationships with key stakeholders – colleagues, clients, journalists and external providers such as designers and web developers. 
  • Assist in collating results from multiple sources against key metrics and compiling monthly reports to identify trends and help to improve performance. 
  • Have an interest in staying up-to-date with industry trends and news, constantly applying these insights into our marketing activities across the board. 
  • Assist with production and in-house printing of leaflets, posters and booklets. 
  • Regularly evaluate personal performance with the supervisor and actively seek opportunities to develop professionally and personally. 
  • Actively participate in staff/team meetings, organisational activities and various community events. 
  • Work in accordance with workplace health and safety guidelines and following WCS’ Policies and Procedures. 
  • Apply workplace Diversity and Equity principles. 

Skills required: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in marketing, media, visual communications or relevant industry experience. 
  • Demonstrated experience in integrated communications planning and delivery in a project or campaign capacity – including digital, print, media, sales promotion and social media. 
  • The passion to thrive in a busy, deadline-driven environment. 
  • Dedication to excellence with strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Experience with FB Business Manager and social media management platforms such as Sprout Social, Sprinklr, etc. 
  • Experience with Mailchimp, Canva, WordPress and Google Analytics is highly preferred but not required. 
  • Graphic design and video productions skills. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office. 
  • Able to work independently.

Woden Community Service (WCS) is a not-for-profit organisation that has been operating since 1969. Originally focused on supporting the Woden community, WCS now provides services throughout the ACT. WCS provides services across all age groups and throughout the community, from early learning to aged care services, supporting mental health and wellbeing, responding to homelessness, assisting those living with disability, working with families and young people, engaging communities while supporting those who are vulnerable.
