WCS and Hughes Primary School win Outstanding Partnership of the Year

Early this month, Hughes Primary School and Woden Community Service picked up the Outstanding Partnership of the Year award at the 2016 ACT Public Education Awards for their English Conversation Group.

The group, which started in 2014, has been very beneficial to the school's multicultural families. It has not only been a place to learn English but also a place to celebrate diversity and share culture, build friendships and reduce isolation within the community.

Six of WCS’s volunteers run the group every Friday. Their dedication and commitment of our volunteers, as well as the fantastic support we have received from the school have made this achievement possible.

Emma head shot"It's a huge honour to be in partnership with a school that celebrates and appreciates diversity and culture as much as Hughes Primary School.  It’s also very humbling to have such a caring, dedicated group of volunteers to make this possible. I would like to include a huge acknowledgement to P&C member, Joanna Murphy who initiated this wonderful partnership," - WCS, Volunteer Coordinator, Emma Dryden.

Congratulations to all involved!

Acknowledgement of Country

"Woden Community Service acknowledges the Ngunnawal people as the traditional owners of this land and their continuing connection to land and community. We also acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have come from other nations to live on Ngunnawal land. We pay our respects to their cultures, ancestors and elders past, present and future."
