#InspiringStories
Continuing with the series of #HealthyEating activities at our Lollipop Early Learning Centre, this week children and families participated with educators to grow plants from seeds.
Our Lollipop children are #learning many life skills when they help in the garden. #Responsibility, the importance of #timing, the effect of the seasons, #patience, #gentleness, and even being #kind are some of them.
Gardening develops many new skills including how to water plants effectively, fine motor skills (especially when they learn to pick things from #plants), gross motor skills when digging, planting, #raking, and #weeding.
So, going out in the garden, #digging a bit, #planting, and #harvesting have physical and mental benefits. It’s also an easy way for children to top up #VitaminD, especially in winter (although we continue to practice sun safety).
The opportunity for #children to get in the #garden, dig and get dirty is a great way to let them explore new sensations and the joy of getting wet and dirty. When children see their #families and #educators contributing to their garden together with them, they build #confidence and a sense of #pride.
