After a very complex year for the young people who attend the Woden Youth Centre and Canberra more broadly, the Youth Services Teams were very excited to be able to host their annual Christmas Dinner event on Thursday 16 December 2021. Young people from all areas were invited down to enjoy the free event and share in the Christmas spirit. The event is vital to some of the young people who may not be in a position to celebrate Christmas due to the myriad of challenges they and their families face at this time of year. The idea for this years event was to promote ‘community connection’ after what had been a very isolating few months due to the ACT lockdown period.
The atmosphere at the Youth Centre was great and the afternoon kicked off with lots of fun and games, free soft drinks, lollies and snacks. The team had organised a fully catered dinner through sponsorship from our friends at Canberra Southern Cross Club and all young people and staff sat down and enjoyed a lovely meal together. The team had also secured a donation of small giftpacks that they were then able to distribute to each and every young person who attended the event. In total 28 young people and 8 staff attended the event and it was considered a huge success by everyone.
