International Children’s Book Day on 2 April is aimed to promote a love of reading in little people and emphasises the importance of books.
At Lollipop ELC, our children got their favourite books from the service library and sat together on the mat and read them. Some of the little ones while looking at the pictures, articulated the whole story and some enjoyed listening to their teacher. Lots of queries were put forward by the little clever minds. Educators were amazed to hear some of the phrases such as ‘But why’, ‘ Why not’, ‘How come’. These curious-filled inquiries show how children are interested and at the same time how they all are enjoying their book reading time. It is evident how children contribute their ideas and experiences in play, small and large group discussions. Also, convey and construct their thoughts with purpose and confidence, building on community literacies (EYLF 5.1).
