Today is the International Day against Homophobia, Bi-Phobia, Intersex Phobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
People from the LGBTIQA+ community are more likely to experience mental health issues, discrimination, homelessness, and suicide. All of this, just for being themselves. In a world where we are all feeling fragile, tired, burnt out, sad, scared, and many other difficult things, our services can be a lynchpin in supporting someone who is fighting for acceptance of who they are.
Please consider how we can be an ally or for those who identify as part of the Rainbow community, how you can teach others to create a more accepting community.
• Ask people what their pronouns are when you first speak with them.
• Ask if people need connection to LGBTIQA+ support services.
• Stand against discrimination in any way you can whenever you can.
• Wear bright (rainbow) colours.
• Put up signs clearly stating that our centres are safe places for LGBTIQA+ folk
• Ask if people need a connection to LGBTIQA+ support services.ever feel unsafe, for any reason, please reach out to Woden Community Service or contact Diversity ACT, AGA or Meridian.
