As part of the development of the new Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) for WCS, the RAP Working Group (RAPWG) commissioned a local Aboriginal artist to complete a painting that will be used in all RAP publications and promotion. A summary of the brief for the artist was to consider Ngunnawal Country, culture and community with a connection to WCS programs that support the ACT community.
The RAPWG was very fortunate to engage Megan Daley, a Ngunnawal and Wiradjuri artist, who has lived in the ACT since 1999. Megan took on board the brief, spent time researching WCS through our website and talking with people within the community. She has made connection between WCS’s purple and local native flora which are many shades of purple, painting the Kangaroo Apple flower in the centre surrounded by symbols of community gathering and sitting together. WCS has agreed with Megan for all or parts of the image of the artwork to be used in WCS marketing, communications and publications, with acknowledgment of the artist.
